Which team can stop the Thunder? OKC's biggest Playoff threats

Oklahoma City Thunder have looked increasingly like a team prepared to dominate the league beyond a single season.
After capturing the NBA championship and entering the campaign as favourites, Oklahoma City have largely justified the hype. Even while dealing with injuries and rotational challenges, the Thunder continue finding answers.
Led by MVP-calibre performances from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and supported by one of the deepest rosters in the league, many observers already see the franchise as a potential dynasty in the making.
But every dominant team eventually runs into difficult matchups. Certain opponents may possess the specific qualities needed to make life uncomfortable for Oklahoma City.
Minnesota's size and defensive structure could create issues
Minnesota Timberwolves remain one of the more physically disruptive teams left in contention. The combination of Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and defensive wings gives Minnesota the ability to slow the pace and challenge opponents physically.
Their defensive length stands out particularly against teams relying on spacing and quick decision-making. The concern remains offensive consistency.
Edwards' health remains an important variable, while Minnesota's secondary ball-handling options continue to raise questions under playoff pressure. Against Oklahoma City's aggressive defensive schemes, creating reliable offense over a seven-game series could become difficult.
Knicks have quietly become one of the most complete teams
New York Knicks have steadily built momentum and now resemble one of the most balanced teams remaining. Jalen Brunson continues to drive the offense, while Karl-Anthony Towns has expanded his influence as both a scorer and creator.
Defensively, the Knicks have multiple players capable of switching assignments and creating pressure. Their versatility across the perimeter could potentially limit some of Oklahoma City's offensive rhythm.
Still, one weakness remains obvious: ball creation depth. If Brunson faces heavy pressure from Oklahoma City's defense, New York may struggle to generate enough offense through secondary options.
Spurs may present the most uncomfortable matchup
At first glance, placing the San Antonio Spurs at the top may appear surprising. However, stylistically, they may possess the ingredients that most directly challenge Oklahoma City.
Victor Wembanyama changes entire games defensively. His rim protection limits attacking lanes and forces opponents into difficult shot selection. Around him, San Antonio also possess multiple players comfortable handling pressure and attacking defenders.
Depth in ball-handling could prove critical because Oklahoma City's defensive system thrives on forcing mistakes.
Questions still remain around shooting consistency and playoff experience, but the Spurs appear equipped with tools many teams simply do not possess.
Why Oklahoma City remain favourites
Even identifying threats highlights how difficult Oklahoma City are to stop. Their defensive versatility, three-point shooting, depth and ability to adapt throughout a series continue separating them from the rest of the field.
The conversation may not be about whether teams can challenge the Thunder for stretches. The larger question is whether anyone can consistently survive them for seven games.
