Knicks reach first NBA finals in 27 years after Cavaliers sweep

The New York Knicks have booked their place in the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly three decades after crushing the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 to complete a commanding sweep of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The victory secured a 4-0 series win and extended the Knicks' franchise-record postseason winning streak to 11 games, underlining the extraordinary form that has transformed them into genuine title contenders.
After years of rebuilding and playoff disappointments, Madison Square Garden now has a Finals team again.
Knicks set the tone early against Cleveland
Any hopes of a Cavaliers comeback quickly disappeared as New York seized control from the opening stages.
The Knicks closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run before opening the second period with another 12 unanswered points, creating a huge early advantage that Cleveland never recovered from.
By halftime, New York had established complete control of the game through aggressive defense and efficient scoring. Cleveland struggled to cope with the pressure and committed 22 turnovers as the Knicks capitalised repeatedly.
Towns leads balanced Knicks performance
While New York's team-oriented approach has defined much of their postseason run, Karl-Anthony Towns once again delivered when needed. The forward finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the scoring effort, while Eastern Conference Finals MVP Jalen Brunson added 15 points.
Landry Shamet also played a major role from the perimeter, scoring 16 points and connecting on all four of his three-point attempts. The Knicks have increasingly shown that their strength extends beyond one player carrying the load.
Different contributors have stepped up throughout the postseason, making the team more difficult to contain.
Brunson reflects on historic achievement
For Jalen Brunson, the Finals appearance also carried personal significance. The 29-year-old was only two years old when the Knicks last reached the NBA Finals in 1999, a team that included his father, Rick Brunson, now serving as an assistant coach.
Brunson credited teammates for helping him develop into one of the league's most influential playoff performers. He emphasized that belief within the squad has become one of the defining factors behind New York's surge.
Four more wins separate the Knicks from history
The Knicks' last championships came in 1970 and 1973, and they now stand four victories away from ending a title drought spanning more than five decades.
New York will now face either defending champions Oklahoma City or San Antonio in the NBA Finals, with that Western Conference series currently level.
Despite the celebrations, players have already turned attention toward the final challenge ahead. Shamet summed up the mood within the camp by stressing that the larger objective remains unfinished.
With momentum, confidence, and an 11-game playoff winning streak, the Knicks now head into the Finals believing they can complete one of the franchise's most memorable seasons.
