Ostapenko and Arevalo win 2026 Wimbledon Mixed Doubles title

Jelena Ostapenko and Marcelo Arevalo staged an impressive comeback to win the 2026 Wimbledon mixed doubles championship, defeating Australia's Storm Hunter and Marc Polmans 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in a thrilling final on Centre Court.

The victory delivered a long-awaited Wimbledon breakthrough for Ostapenko while also creating history for Arevalo, who became the first player from El Salvador to lift a title at the All England Club.

Ostapenko finally gets her Wimbledon moment

For Ostapenko, the triumph was the reward for years of persistence on Wimbledon's grass courts. The 2017 French Open singles champion had previously fallen just short of lifting the trophy at SW19, finishing runner-up in the 2019 mixed doubles final and again in last year's women's doubles championship match.

This time, the Latvian finally crossed the finish line, adding a Wimbledon title to her growing Grand Slam collection.

Arevalo creates tennis history for El Salvador

The victory represented a landmark achievement for Marcelo Arevalo and Salvadoran tennis.

Already established as one of the world's leading doubles specialists, Arevalo became the first player from El Salvador to win a Wimbledon title, adding another historic milestone to his career.

His composed play at the net and decisive serving proved crucial as the pair turned the match around after dropping the opening set.

Hunter and Polmans made the brighter start, claiming the first set 6-4 with aggressive returning and consistent service games.

However, Ostapenko and Arevalo gradually found their rhythm in the second set. The turning point arrived late in the set when they secured a crucial break to edge ahead 7-5 and force a deciding third set.

With momentum firmly on their side, the eventual champions dominated the final set, breaking twice before comfortably closing out the match 6-2 after just under two hours of play.

First champions crowned at Wimbledon 2026

The mixed doubles final produced the first Wimbledon champions of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, setting the stage for the remaining title matches across the singles and doubles competitions.

For Ostapenko, it was redemption after previous heartbreak at the All England Club. For Arevalo, it was a career-defining triumph that placed his name in Salvadoran sporting history.
