Djokovic beats Auger-Aliassime in longest Wimbledon quarter-final

Novak Djokovic produced another remarkable chapter in his legendary career after surviving the longest men's singles quarter-final in Wimbledon history to book a blockbuster semi-final against world number one Jannik Sinner.

The Serbian battled through pain, extreme heat and relentless pressure before defeating Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6(10), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(4) in a marathon contest lasting five hours and 15 minutes.

The victory sends Djokovic into his 15th Wimbledon semi-final as he continues his pursuit of a record-extending 25th Grand Slam singles title.

Djokovic overcomes injury and fatigue

The seven-time Wimbledon champion appeared to be in trouble early after suffering discomfort during the opening set. Despite the physical setback, Djokovic refused to surrender.

Both players exchanged powerful baseline rallies throughout a match that tested endurance as much as shot-making, with neither willing to concede momentum.

After splitting the opening four sets, the deciding set produced another tense finish before Djokovic prevailed in the final-set tiebreak.

Speaking after the victory, the 39-year-old credited determination rather than brilliance.

"With a racquet and a lot of heart," Djokovic said. "These are the moments I still play tennis for."

Historic Wimbledon milestones continue

The victory added several more milestones to Djokovic's remarkable career.

He has now:

  • Reached a record 15 Wimbledon semi-finals
  • Advanced to his 55th Grand Slam semi-final
  • Extended his streak to eight consecutive Wimbledon semi-finals
  • Become only the second man in the Open Era to reach a Wimbledon semi-final aged 39 or older

The Serbian also moved one step closer to equalling Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon men's singles titles.

Sinner awaits in heavyweight semi-final

Standing between Djokovic and another Wimbledon final is defending champion Jannik Sinner. The Italian booked his place in the last four after defeating Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets.

Although Djokovic owns five victories from 11 meetings with Sinner, including previous Wimbledon successes, the reigning champion defeated him at the All England Club in 2025 before Djokovic responded by winning their Australian Open encounter earlier this year.

Friday's semi-final promises to be one of the tournament's standout matches.

Coco Gauff defeats Jessica Pegula to advance to Wimbledon semi-final

Gauff makes more Grand Slam history

Earlier in the day, Coco Gauff continued her impressive season by defeating fellow American Jessica Pegula to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.

The victory means Gauff has now reached the semi-finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments during her career, further cementing her place among the sport's elite.

She will now face Czech star Karolina Muchova for a place in Saturday's final.

Muchova ends Osaka's impressive run

Karolina Muchova booked her first Wimbledon semi-final after defeating Naomi Osaka 7-6(4), 6-4. The Czech produced another intelligent all-court performance, mixing powerful baseline play with delicate drop shots and effective net approaches to frustrate the four-time Grand Slam champion.

Both players struck 24 winners, but Muchova's consistency proved decisive as Osaka committed 42 unforced errors. The victory keeps alive Muchova's pursuit of a first Grand Slam singles title.

Osaka's revival ends in Quarter-finals

Although disappointed by the defeat, Osaka leaves Wimbledon with several positives. The former world number one reached the quarter-finals at the All England Club for the first time and continued the encouraging progress she has made since returning to professional tennis after maternity leave.

Having already defeated world number one Aryna Sabalenka earlier in the tournament, Osaka once again demonstrated she remains capable of challenging the game's biggest names.

Her attention now turns to the North American hard-court swing later this summer.
