Müller tips Bayern for World Cup star Johan Manzambi after Switzerland heroics

Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller believes Johan Manzambi has the qualities needed to play for the Bundesliga champions after the young midfielder produced another eye-catching performance at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 20-year-old enhanced his growing reputation by scoring twice as Switzerland defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1, a display that earned him the Player of the Match award and intensified speculation surrounding his future.

Speaking after the game, Müller openly encouraged Bayern to monitor the Freiburg midfielder.

"For me, he's someone that FC Bayern should take a close look at," Müller said.
The former Germany international highlighted the youngster's tactical flexibility as one of his greatest strengths.
"He can play as a number six, number eight or number ten. He even wears the number nine shirt, so maybe we can even market him as a striker," Müller joked.

World Cup display continues rapid rise

Manzambi changed the game almost immediately after coming off the bench. Just two minutes after entering the match, he broke the deadlock with a superb volley before adding a second goal late on to secure Switzerland's emphatic victory.

The brace followed an outstanding club campaign with Freiburg, where the midfielder emerged as one of the Bundesliga's brightest young talents.

His performances throughout the season have attracted growing interest from several European clubs, with scouts closely monitoring his development even before the World Cup began.

Switzerland's impressive start to the tournament has now pushed Manzambi further into the international spotlight.

Bayern face competition for signature

Müller's endorsement comes as Bayern continue evaluating midfield options ahead of the new season.

Although the German champions have recently been linked with PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ismael Saibari, Manzambi's versatility, age profile and Bundesliga experience make him another attractive long-term option.

However, Bayern are unlikely to have a clear path. Napoli are also reported to be monitoring the Swiss international, while several other European clubs are believed to be tracking his progress following his breakout campaign.

Manzambi staying focused

Despite the increasing transfer speculation, Manzambi has remained calm whenever questioned about his future. The Freiburg midfielder, whose current contract runs until 2030, has repeatedly insisted his focus remains on representing Switzerland at the World Cup.

Responding to Müller's comments after the victory, the youngster laughed off suggestions of an immediate move.

"I'm still in Freiburg," Manzambi said. "I'm focused on the World Cup. I don't know what I'll be doing next season."

World Cup could raise his value further

With Switzerland now firmly in contention for a place in the knockout rounds, Manzambi has another opportunity to strengthen his growing reputation on football's biggest stage.

A strong tournament could significantly increase both his market value and the number of elite clubs competing for his signature during the summer transfer window.

Whether Bayern decide to act on Müller's recommendation remains uncertain, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Johan Manzambi is quickly
