Florentino Pérez re-elected as Real Madrid President until 2030

Real Madrid have confirmed that Florentino Pérez has been re-elected as president of the club, extending his leadership of the Spanish giants until 2030.

The announcement was made on Monday following the completion of voting by club members, with Pérez comfortably defeating challenger Enrique Riquelme to secure another term at the helm of one of football's most successful institutions.

According to the club's Electoral Board, Pérez received 21,741 votes, representing 65 percent of the ballots cast, while Riquelme secured 11,814 votes, accounting for 35 percent.

The result strengthens Pérez's position after more than two decades of influence at Real Madrid and signals the beginning of a new chapter that could include significant changes both on and off the pitch.

Pérez secures comfortable victory

In an official statement, Real Madrid's Electoral Board confirmed the outcome after all in-person and postal votes had been counted.

The result marked the first contested presidential election at the club in two decades, with renewable energy entrepreneur Enrique Riquelme challenging the long-serving president.

Despite the challenge, Pérez secured a clear majority and retained the confidence of the club's membership.

His new administration will continue to include vice presidents Eduardo Fernández de Blas, Pedro López Jiménez, Enrique Sánchez González and Enrique Pérez Rodríguez, alongside Secretary José Luis del Valle Pérez and the rest of the Board of Directors.

Pérez promises continued success

Speaking after the result, Pérez reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining Real Madrid's status as one of the world's leading football clubs.

"We have won the elections and will continue working to keep winning titles," Pérez said. "I am still here and I am here to defend Real Madrid."

The veteran president also highlighted the club's ambitions in European competition.

"We will continue working so that Real Madrid keeps winning titles, and we will fight until the end to achieve the 16th European Cup."

Pérez further praised the redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, describing it as "the best stadium in the world."

Mourinho return officially backed

One of the most significant implications of Pérez's victory is the expected confirmation of José Mourinho as Real Madrid's new head coach.

The Portuguese manager reportedly agreed to return to Madrid on a three-year contract, although the arrangement was contingent on Pérez retaining the presidency.

Now that the election has been decided, Mourinho's appointment is expected to move forward.

Pérez openly welcomed the prospect of the Portuguese coach's return. "Proud to welcome back one of the best coaches in the world, a Madridista like José Mourinho," he said.

The 63-year-old previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup. His first spell is widely credited with helping restore the club's competitiveness at both domestic and European levels.

A new direction after trophyless season

Mourinho's return comes after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign for Real Madrid. The club finished the season without a major trophy, while rivals Barcelona claimed the La Liga title and strengthened their domestic dominance.

The lack of silverware increased pressure on the club's leadership and coaching structure, prompting significant decisions ahead of the new season.

Mourinho is expected to replace Álvaro Arbeloa, who took charge earlier in the year following the departure of Xabi Alonso.

Transfer ambitions on the horizon

During the election campaign, Pérez hinted that the club could pursue a major signing if re-elected.

While no player was specifically identified, reports suggest Real Madrid are preparing for another ambitious transfer window as they look to strengthen a squad capable of challenging for both La Liga and Champions League honours.

The combination of Pérez's continued leadership and Mourinho's expected arrival signals an aggressive approach as Real Madrid seek to return to the top of European football.

Real Madrid's member-owned model remains intact

Pérez also emphasized the club's unique ownership structure. Unlike many elite European clubs, Real Madrid remains entirely owned by its members, who vote directly in presidential elections.

"Real Madrid has been, is, and will always remain owned by its members," Pérez stated. That model remains one of the defining characteristics of the club and continues to shape its governance and long-term strategy.
