Chelsea beat AC Milan 3-0 as Joao Pedro scores twice in Jakarta

Chelsea produced an encouraging performance in Jakarta as they defeated AC Milan 3-0 in their latest pre-season friendly, with Joao Pedro scoring twice before Moises Caicedo completed the victory.
The result provides a timely boost for new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso after the Blues suffered consecutive friendly defeats against Tottenham and Juventus.
Chelsea controlled much of the contest and created several opportunities before finally breaking the deadlock shortly before half-time.
Joao Pedro breaks the deadlock
Joao Pedro opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time after earlier missing two promising chances. The Brazilian forward made amends when he connected with an in-swinging corner from six yards, heading beyond AC Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead at the interval.
Pedro Neto then played a major role in Chelsea's second goal immediately after the restart.
The winger delivered a dangerous cross towards the far post, where Joao Pedro was able to force the ball past Torriani to complete his brace and put Chelsea firmly in control.
The two goals also add to the forward's impressive recent pre-season form after he previously scored a nine-minute hat-trick against Western Sydney Wanderers.
Caicedo adds Chelsea's third
Chelsea needed only four more minutes to extend their advantage.
Romeo Lavia's corner found Chelsea captain Moises Caicedo on the edge of the penalty area. The midfielder produced an excellent finish, striking a volley with the outside of his right foot into the far corner.
The third goal effectively ended Milan's hopes of mounting a comeback and underlined Chelsea's dominance.
The Blues could have added further goals, with Geovany Quenda and Nicolas Jackson both hitting the woodwork during the match.
Alonso gets much-needed winning result
Chelsea's victory will be particularly encouraging for Alonso after defeats to Tottenham and Juventus had raised questions about the team's preparations under their new head coach.
Against Milan, however, Chelsea looked considerably sharper and more dangerous in attack, while their opponents struggled to create a consistent threat.
AC Milan were managed by former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, but the Italian side were unable to match Chelsea's intensity for much of the contest. The result gives Alonso a positive platform heading into Chelsea's final pre-season fixtures.
What's next for Chelsea?
Chelsea will conclude their pre-season tour on Sunday when they face Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta'zim, with kick-off scheduled for 1:00pm BST.
The Blues will then return to London for a final friendly against Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea's competitive campaign begins on 24 August 2026, when they face Fulham in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2026/27 season.
