Wolves relegated to Championship after West Ham draw at Palace

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been officially relegated from the Premier League following West Ham United’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. The result leaves Wolves stranded on 17 points, 16 points adrift of safety with just five games remaining, making survival mathematically impossible.
Relegation confirmed
Despite a late-season managerial change, Wolves were unable to recover from a disastrous start. Under Rob Edwards, there were signs of improvement, but the damage had already been done after a winless opening half of the season.
- Failed to win any of their first 19 league matches
- Lost their opening five games
- Rooted to the bottom for much of the campaign
The club now returns to the EFL Championship after eight years in the top flight.
From European Nights to Relegation
Wolves’ drop marks a dramatic fall from their recent highs. After earning promotion in 2018, they quickly established themselves as one of the league’s most competitive sides:
- Back-to-back 7th-place finishes
- Reached the UEFA Europa League semi-finals
- Became a consistent top-half contender
However, the gradual departure of key players and declining performances saw them slip into the bottom half, and eventually into a relegation battle they could not escape.
Rivals benefit in survival race
Elsewhere, the result proved significant for teams battling to stay up.
Tottenham Hotspur, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, remain in trouble after dropping points late against Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest strengthened their position with a comeback win over Burnley.
With five matches remaining, West Ham sit two points ahead of Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest hold a five-point cushion over Spurs.
End of an Era at Molineux
For Wolves, relegation signals the end of a memorable Premier League chapter that included European football and strong domestic finishes. Now, attention turns to rebuilding and planning for life back in the Championship, where expectations will be immediate promotion.
