Victor Osimhen fires Galatasaray to 26th Turkish League title

Victor Osimhen produced a title-winning performance for Galatasaray as the Istanbul giants defeated Antalyaspor 4-2 in a dramatic encounter to secure a record-extending 26th Turkish Süper Lig crown.

The victory confirmed Galatasaray as league champions for a fourth consecutive season and further strengthened their status as the dominant force in Turkish football.

In a high-pressure night at home, Galatasaray twice found themselves behind before mounting a powerful comeback inspired by Osimhen’s decisive second-half brilliance.

Antalyaspor shocked the Champions-Elect early

Galatasaray entered the match knowing victory would mathematically seal the title race, but the evening began nervously for the hosts. Soner Dikmen stunned the home crowd with a goal in the 45th minute, handing Antalyaspor a crucial lead just before half-time.

The setback briefly increased tension around the stadium as Galatasaray’s supporters feared the title celebrations could be delayed.

However, coach Okan Buruk saw his side respond strongly after the break. Former Premier League midfielder Mario Lemina restored parity in the 56th minute, reigniting belief inside the stadium.

Yet the drama intensified only minutes later when Antalyaspor regained the lead through a spectacular free-kick in the 62nd minute, silencing the home support once again.

Osimhen takes control of the title race

With pressure mounting and the championship hanging in the balance, Osimhen delivered the defining moment of Galatasaray’s season.

The Nigerian striker equalised in the 66th minute before completing a sensational brace shortly afterwards to push Galatasaray ahead for the first time in the match.

His movement, composure, and physical presence completely transformed the contest as Antalyaspor struggled to contain him during the closing stages. Deep into stoppage time, Kaan Ayhan added a fourth goal to confirm the victory and ignite celebrations across Istanbul.

Osimhen’s impact has been decisive

Turkish media widely praised Osimhen following the final whistle, describing him as the “difference maker” in this season’s title race.

The striker’s importance to Galatasaray has been reflected consistently throughout the campaign. Reports indicate the club won 20 of the 24 league matches in which Osimhen scored, underlining how influential he became within Buruk’s attacking system.

Since arriving in Turkey, the Nigerian international has elevated Galatasaray’s attacking threat with his pace, pressing intensity, aerial dominance, and clinical finishing.

His performances in decisive fixtures have also helped establish him as one of the standout players in European football this season.

Okan Buruk matches club history

The title victory also represented another major achievement for Buruk, who guided Galatasaray to a fourth straight league championship. In doing so, he matched the club’s legendary run between 1996 and 2000 under iconic manager Fatih Terim.

Buruk, who played under Terim during that historic era, has now further strengthened his own legacy in Turkish football. Despite strong competition from rivals Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray maintained remarkable consistency throughout the campaign and remained top of the table from the fourth week onward.

A dominant 3-0 derby victory over Fenerbahçe last month proved especially decisive in shifting momentum firmly toward Galatasaray during the closing weeks of the season.

Galatasaray’s dominance continues

The latest title further widened Galatasaray’s advantage as Türkiye’s most successful football club. The Lions now hold 26 league championships, ahead of Fenerbahçe’s 19 and Beşiktaş JK’s 16.

Beyond domestic success, Galatasaray also impressed in Europe this season, reaching the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and earning notable victories against elite continental opposition.

Analysts believe the club’s balance between internationally recognised stars and experienced domestic talent has become a model for sustainable competitiveness in Turkish football.

Celebrations spread beyond Türkiye

Scenes of celebration erupted across Istanbul immediately after the final whistle, with supporters gathering in streets, public squares, and club districts throughout the night.

Celebrations also spread internationally, particularly in Berlin, where thousands of Turkish supporters gathered around Kurfürstendamm and Breitscheidplatz to celebrate the triumph.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also congratulated the club publicly following the victory. For Galatasaray supporters, the latest championship was more than another title.

It was further evidence that the club has entered another golden era, and Victor Osimhen stood firmly at the centre of it.
