Victor Osimhen has been crowned Turkey’s Footballer of the Year at the prestigious Milliyet Sports Awards, capping a remarkable season with Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker becomes the first player from his country to claim the honour, further cementing his growing legacy in European football.

A season to remember

Osimhen’s award comes on the back of a historic campaign in which he played a central role in Galatasaray’s domestic dominance. The 27-year-old forward registered an outstanding 37 goals and seven assists, driving the club to a Süper Lig and Turkish Cup double.

Across all competitions, his numbers were equally impressive, 56 goals and 12 assists in just 70 appearances, highlighting his consistency and elite attacking output.

With this recognition, Osimhen joins a select group of foreign players to win the award, alongside notable names such as Alex de Souza, Fernando Muslera, Enner Valencia and Mauro Icardi.

His impact since arriving from Napoli has been immediate, transforming Galatasaray’s attack and quickly earning him cult-hero status among supporters in Istanbul.

Records and milestones

Osimhen’s season was not just about goals, it was about breaking records. He became the fastest player in Galatasaray history to reach 50 goals, achieving the milestone in just 59 appearances. He also made history as the first Nigerian to score 10 goals in the UEFA Champions League.

His spectacular bicycle kick against Antalyaspor was voted Goal of the Season, underlining his flair as well as his efficiency.

Recognition across the board

In addition to the Footballer of the Year award, Osimhen also swept individual honours last season, including Süper Lig Player of the Season and Galatasaray’s Player of the Season.

Unable to attend the ceremony due to recovery from arm surgery, the award was collected on his behalf by Uğurcan Çakır, who praised his teammate’s quality and character.

In a video message played during the ceremony, Osimhen expressed gratitude to everyone involved in his success.
