Shakira teases FIFA World Cup 2026 song ‘Dai Dai’ featuring Burna Boy

Shakira is set to make another major return to football’s global stage after teasing a new FIFA World Cup anthem titled “Dai Dai,” a collaboration with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Colombian singer shared a one-minute teaser clip on social media from the iconic Maracanã Stadium on Thursday, instantly generating excitement among football and music fans worldwide.
In the teaser, Shakira appears on the stadium pitch surrounded by dancers while delivering emotionally charged lyrics in English.
“Here in this place / You belong,” she sings before adding, “What broke you once / Made you strong.”
A male voice, believed to be Burna Boy’s, harmonises throughout the clip, hinting at a fusion of Latin pop, stadium-ready rhythms, and Afrobeats influences.
According to Shakira’s announcement, the complete track will officially be released on May 14.
Burna Boy’s Global Influence
The collaboration marks another landmark moment for Burna Boy, whose international reputation continues to expand beyond music into major global sporting and cultural events.
Over the last few years, Afrobeats has increasingly become part of football culture worldwide, with African artists now featuring prominently in tournament ceremonies, club events, and international collaborations.
Burna Boy’s involvement in a FIFA World Cup anthem further reinforces Nigeria’s growing influence in global entertainment and sports branding.
The Grammy-winning singer has previously performed at major sporting occasions, including the UEFA Champions League final kickoff show, and his inclusion in “Dai Dai” reflects FIFA’s continued embrace of diverse musical identities ahead of its expanded 48-team tournament in 2026.
Shakira’s long history with FIFA World Cup music
Shakira is no stranger to World Cup anthems or football audiences. Her 2010 hit Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) became one of the most successful football songs ever released and remains deeply associated with the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The track achieved worldwide commercial success and became culturally significant across Africa for its celebratory themes and energetic sound.
Since then, Shakira has maintained a strong connection with global football audiences, making her return for the 2026 tournament a nostalgic moment for many fans.
FIFA World Cup 2026 set for historic expansion
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to become the largest edition in the tournament’s history. The competition will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with the opening fixture scheduled for June 11 at Estadio Azteca.
The final will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.
With the tournament expanding to 48 teams for the first time, FIFA has increasingly focused on entertainment, global fan engagement, and crossover collaborations capable of connecting audiences beyond football itself.
‘Dai Dai’ separate from Coca-Cola’s FIFA Campaign Anthem
Despite widespread online excitement, “Dai Dai” is separate from Coca-Cola’s previously announced FIFA World Cup 2026 promotional anthem.
That campaign features a reimagined version of Jump involving artists including J Balvin, Travis Barker, Amber Mark, and Steve Vai.
However, “Dai Dai” appears positioned as the tournament’s flagship musical release, especially given Shakira’s longstanding relationship with FIFA World Cup branding.
With anticipation already building ahead of the song’s official launch, football and music audiences alike will be watching closely to see whether “Dai Dai” can recreate the cultural impact achieved by “Waka Waka” more than a decade ago.
