PSG beat 10-man Marseille 2-1 in Ligue 1 clash at Vélodrome

Paris Saint-Germain beat rivals Marseille 2-1 to record just their second win of the Ligue 1 season, in front of 61,499 supporters at the CEPAC Vélodrome on Sunday 20 September.

The contest was goalless at half-time, but three goals in the space of eight second-half minutes settled it, along with a dismissal that left Marseille with 10 men and deepened a troubling start to their campaign.

Torres and Marquinhos settle it after the break

Substitute Ferran Torres headed PSG into the lead in the 66th minute from Desire Doue's cross, his seventh goal in six games.

England midfielder Angel Gomes levelled for Marseille in the 72nd, showing some good footwork before finishing from Amine Gouiri's assist.

The equaliser lasted barely two minutes. Marquinhos put PSG ahead from close range in the 74th after his initial effort was saved by Jeffrey de Lange, a goal that takes the Brazilian to three for the season, more than the whole of the last campaign.

Weah sent off for the hosts

Marseille's task became harder still in the 77th minute when Timothy Weah, once of PSG, was shown a second yellow card for pulling Nuno Mendes.

Relegation zone for Marseille as PSG climb to sixth

The hosts are in the relegation zone after a fourth defeat in five matches.

PSG, who have won five titles in a row, are up to sixth in the Ligue 1 table. They sit five points behind leaders Monaco, who beat Lens 2-1 on Friday.
