Champions League Round-Up: Ferran Torres hat-trick leads PSG, Barcelona and Liverpool win

The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign began with several emphatic attacking performances, led by reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG opened their title defence in spectacular fashion, beating Slovan Bratislava 6-1 at the Parc des Princes as Ferran Torres scored three times on his Champions League debut for the club.

Barcelona also produced an impressive display, defeating Feyenoord 5-1, while Liverpool edged Atlético Madrid 2-1 at Anfield. Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory away to Napoli, while Stuttgart and Sporting also collected three points.

Here is a closer look at the opening results.

PSG 6-1 Slovan Bratislava: Torres makes history

Paris Saint-Germain wasted little time reminding Europe why they are the team to beat after winning the Champions League in each of the previous two seasons. Ferran Torres was the headline act, scoring a hat-trick as PSG cruised to a 6-1 victory.

The forward became the first PSG player to score a hat-trick on his debut in the Champions League for the club, giving the reigning champions another reason to celebrate on an otherwise comfortable night. Ousmane Dembélé also struck twice in the first half as PSG established a commanding advantage before the break.

The result gives the French champions an ideal start to their latest European campaign and underlines the attacking depth available to them.

Result: PSG 6-1 Slovan Bratislava

Barcelona 5-1 Feyenoord: Raphinha keeps scoring

Barcelona continued their explosive start to the season with a convincing victory over Feyenoord.

Raphinha scored twice, taking his tally to five goals in his first five matches and eight across all competitions this season.

Lamine Yamal also found the net from a free-kick, reaching the milestone of 101 career goal contributions.

There was another positive moment for Barcelona when Gabriel Jesus opened his scoring account for the club just two minutes after coming off the bench.

The Catalan side have now scored at least four goals in a match five times this season, with their total already reaching 22 goals.

Result: Barcelona 5-1 Feyenoord

Liverpool 2-1 Atlético Madrid: Reds survive Anfield test

Liverpool began their European campaign with a 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid in a game that produced a notable statistic for the visitors.

Marcos Llorente scored for the fifth time in five Champions League appearances at Anfield, meaning he has now scored more goals at Liverpool's home ground in the competition than he has in Madrid. However, Liverpool held on for all three points, giving them a winning start to the League Phase.

Result: Liverpool 2-1 Atlético Madrid

Napoli 0-1 Arsenal: Ødegaard settles tight contest

Arsenal secured one of the night's more hard-fought victories by edging Napoli 1-0. Martin Ødegaard provided the decisive moment in the 75th minute, finding the net to give Arsenal an important away victory.

The result represents a strong start for the Premier League side, particularly given the difficulty of securing points at Napoli's home ground.

Result: Napoli 0-1 Arsenal

Stuttgart 3-1 Viking: Demirović strikes three times

Ermedin Demirović produced one of the individual performances of the night for Stuttgart, scoring all three goals in a 12-minute spell as the German side defeated Viking 3-1.

It was the first Champions League hat-trick by a Stuttgart player, while the speed of his treble also put him among the competition's fastest hat-trick scorers.

Result: Stuttgart 3-1 Viking

Sporting 3-1 Galatasaray

Sporting also began their campaign with three points, defeating Galatasaray 3-1. Geny Catamo, Luis Suárez and Rodrigo Zalazar were on target for the Portuguese side as they overcame the Turkish champions.

Result: Sporting 3-1 Galatasaray

PSG's attack remains the headline. A six-goal opening-night performance from the defending champions, including a Torres hat-trick and Dembélé brace, sends an early warning to their rivals.

Barcelona's scoring form is equally striking. Five goals against Feyenoord takes their season tally to 22, while Raphinha and Yamal continue to play important attacking roles.

For Liverpool and Arsenal, the opening victories were less emphatic but potentially just as valuable. Both secured three points against respected opposition, giving them an ideal platform for the remainder of the League Phase.

With the Champions League's League Phase now underway, the early results have already produced goals, records and several contenders making their intentions clear.
