Chelsea outspend rivals as Premier League Clubs cross major transfer milestones

The Premier League's reputation as the world's biggest spending league remains intact, with clubs once again investing heavily during the 2026 summer transfer window.
Although several teams have opted to balance their books through player sales, the league's traditional heavyweights continue to dominate the market. Chelsea currently top the net spend rankings after committing almost £300 million to strengthen their squad, while Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City also rank among the division's biggest investors.
At the opposite end of the table, clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have generated substantial profits through player sales, placing them in a strong financial position ahead of the new campaign.
Chelsea set the pace in the Transfer Market
Chelsea have once again demonstrated their financial muscle, recording the Premier League's highest net spend at -£181 million. The Blues have invested £294 million on new arrivals while recovering £113 million through player sales.
Among their headline signings is England international Morgan Rogers, who completed a high-profile move from Aston Villa after Chelsea agreed a reported £118 million deal. The London club also strengthened defensively with the arrival of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace as new manager Xabi Alonso continues reshaping the squad.
Tottenham and Manchester City continue heavy investment
Tottenham Hotspur rank second for net spend after committing £228.5 million on transfers. Spurs have combined smart free-agent acquisitions with major purchases, including Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Mateus Fernandes, highlighting their ambition ahead of the new season.
Manchester City occupy third place after spending £150 million, with the marquee signing being midfielder Elliot Anderson, whose reported £116 million move from Nottingham Forest stands among the summer's biggest transfers.
Pep Guardiola's side have partially offset their spending through the departures of Manuel Akanji and Nathan Aké, but City remain one of the league's biggest spenders.
Liverpool continue squad evolution
Liverpool have also maintained an aggressive recruitment strategy. The Reds have invested £89 million, bringing in defender Jeremy Jacquet and World Cup winner Víctor Muñoz as Arne Slot continues building his squad.
While Liverpool have yet to record significant transfer income, the club hopes its latest additions will strengthen its challenge for domestic and European honours.
Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa cash in
Not every club has focused on spending. Nottingham Forest currently boast the strongest financial surplus in the Premier League after generating £123 million in sales while spending only £17 million, leaving them with a positive net spend of £106 million.
Much of that income came from the sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. Aston Villa have also balanced the books effectively.
The Midlands club received £194 million through player sales, including the departures of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Donyell Malen, before reinvesting around £90 million on new signings such as Johan Manzambi, João Gomes, and loan arrival Alejandro Garnacho.
Clubs taking a more cautious approach
Several Premier League clubs have been notably conservative in the market. Crystal Palace are yet to make a signing but have strengthened their finances through the sale of Maxence Lacroix.
Similarly, Sunderland have yet to spend after earning £19 million from player departures. Everton remain one of the few clubs without any transfer income this summer but have still invested £56 million in strengthening David Moyes' squad.
