Brentford 3-0 Chelsea: Bees seal historic win as Blues collapse

Brentford produced a stunning second-half performance to beat Chelsea 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium and claim their first home victory over the Blues since 1938.

The Premier League clash was goalless at half-time, but Brentford eventually broke through in the 61st minute before adding two more goals late in the match.

Jaidon Anthony opened the scoring, Igor Thiago doubled the advantage in the 83rd minute and substitute Fábio Carvalho completed the victory in stoppage time.

Brentford break through after goalless first half

Chelsea enjoyed more possession during the match, controlling 59% of the ball compared with Brentford's 41%. The Blues also recorded 12 attempts to Brentford's 14, but struggled to turn their possession into clear-cut opportunities.

The first half ended 0-0, with Brentford's defence keeping Chelsea's attacking players relatively quiet.

The hosts eventually found the breakthrough from a set piece in the 61st minute.

Mikkel Damsgaard delivered a dangerous corner towards the far post, where Schuster headed the ball back across goal. Anthony was left with a simple finish from close range to give Brentford the lead.

Thiago punishes Chelsea on the counter

Brentford doubled their advantage after Chelsea committed players forward.

Kristoffer Ajer intercepted a loose pass from Jordan Henderson before Brentford launched a quick counter-attack. Kevin Schade drove into the box and saw his effort saved by Emiliano Martínez, but the rebound fell perfectly for Thiago, who calmly finished into the right side of the net.

It was Thiago's first Premier League goal of the season and effectively ended Chelsea's hopes of recovering.

Carvalho completes the rout

Carvalho added a third in the fourth minute of stoppage time to put the result beyond doubt.

Schade's long throw was only partially cleared before the ball was worked back to him on the left. His low delivery deflected off Levi Colwill and fell to Carvalho at the far post, with the substitute finishing emphatically from close range.

The goal completed a remarkable second-half turnaround for Brentford and sparked celebrations inside the Gtech Community Stadium.

Chelsea's defensive problems continue

The defeat extended Chelsea's winless Premier League run to three matches and highlighted further defensive problems for Xabi Alonso's side.

Chelsea had already conceded heavily during the opening weeks of the campaign, and the 3-0 defeat meant they had conceded 12 goals in their first five league matches, according to the match report.

Alonso admitted afterwards that Chelsea were not consistent enough over the full 90 minutes and said the team needed to analyse and improve during the international break.

Brentford, meanwhile, climbed to third place immediately after the victory, maintaining their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

The result also ended Brentford's long wait for a home victory over Chelsea, with the Bees beating the Blues at home for the first time since 1938.
