Brazil extend Carlo Ancelotti contract until 2030 ahead of FIFA World Cup

Brazil has officially extended the contract of legendary Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti until 2030, reaffirming their commitment to long-term stability as the Seleção prepares for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the agreement on Thursday, describing the renewal as a major step in its ambition to restore Brazil to the summit of world football.

Ancelotti, 66, was appointed Brazil head coach in 2025 after ending his successful spell with Real Madrid. Since taking charge, the veteran tactician has guided the five-time world champions through qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Brazil back Ancelotti’s long-term vision

The contract extension ensures Ancelotti will remain in charge through the 2030 World Cup cycle, giving Brazil continuity after years of managerial instability following the departures of Tite and interim coaching arrangements.

Speaking after the announcement, Ancelotti reflected on his experience managing one of football’s most iconic national teams.

“From the very first minute, I understood what football means to this country,” Ancelotti said. “For the past year, we have been working to lead the Brazilian National Team back to the very top of the world stage.”

The former AC Milan, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich manager added that he remains motivated to achieve even more success with Brazil.

“I want more victories, more time, more work,” the Italian coach stated.

CBF president Samir Xaud praised the extension, calling it a strategic move designed to keep Brazil competing at the highest international level.

Focus turns to 2026 FIFA World Cup

Attention now shifts to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Brazil will once again enter the tournament among the favourites.

Ancelotti is expected to unveil his final squad on May 18 before Brazil play a pre-tournament friendly against Panama national football team at the Maracana Stadium on May 31.

Brazil will base their World Cup preparations in New Jersey and have been drawn into Group C alongside Morocco national football team, Scotland national football team, and Haiti national football team.

The extension also strengthens speculation that Brazil’s football leadership believes Ancelotti can oversee a transitional era featuring both experienced stars and the country’s next generation of talent.

Ancelotti’s winning legacy

Widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history, Ancelotti has built a reputation for success across Europe’s top leagues. His trophy collection includes multiple UEFA Champions League titles, domestic league crowns, and international honours.

Brazil’s decision to retain him through 2030 signals confidence that his experience and calm leadership can help deliver the nation’s long-awaited sixth World Cup title.
