Bayern Munich thrash Bodo/Glimt as Kane hits 55th Champions League goal

Harry Kane scored his 55th Champions League goal and Michael Olise struck twice as Bayern Munich opened their campaign with a comfortable victory over Bodo/Glimt.

Vincent Kompany's side eventually overwhelmed the Norwegian champions after a stubborn first half, securing an emphatic result as they look to go further than last season's semi-final appearance.

Jamal Musiala opened the scoring early in the second half before Kane headed Bayern's second from a free-kick. Alphonso Davies then produced a spectacular finish from outside the box before Olise completed the rout with two goals, including one in stoppage time.

The result gave Bayern the ideal start to their Champions League campaign.

Musiala marks return with historic goal

Bayern had to be patient during the opening period, with Bodo/Glimt resisting their pressure and limiting clear opportunities.

The breakthrough came shortly after half-time when Kane's shot took a favourable deflection into the path of Musiala, who finished to put Bayern ahead.

It was a particularly significant goal for Musiala, who was making his first start of the season after collapsing twice within four days in August because of a neurological dysfunction.

The Germany international described his emotions after the match.

"The feeling I had today is a feeling I haven't had for a while."

Musiala's goal also entered Bayern's history books. It was the club's 900th goal in Europe's premier club competition, with only Real Madrid having scored more.

Kane reaches 55 Champions League goals

Kane doubled Bayern's advantage when he headed in a free-kick, taking his Champions League tally to 55 goals in 71 appearances.

The England captain is now the third-fastest player to reach 55 goals in the competition based on appearances.

Only Erling Haaland, who reached the mark in 49 matches, and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who did so in 70, got there quicker.

Kane's latest European goal was also his 34th in 39 appearances for Bayern Munich, further underlining his prolific record since joining the German club.

Davies and Olise complete Bayern rout

Bodo/Glimt struggled to create a response as Bayern took control of the contest.

There was one memorable opportunity for the visitors midway through the second half when Andreas Helmersen noticed Manuel Neuer off his line and attempted an audacious effort from around halfway.

The attempt beat Neuer but landed on top of the net.

Bayern soon extended their lead through Davies, who unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-0.

Olise then added a fourth with a composed finish into the top corner.

The France international was not finished there, scoring again in stoppage time to complete his double and cap a dominant Bayern display.

Bodo/Glimt suffer late setback

The Norwegian side's difficult evening ended on an even sourer note when Odin Bjortuft was sent off in the final minutes for a foul on Olise.

By then, Bayern had already established complete control and the late dismissal only compounded Bodo/Glimt's problems.

Kompany's team can now take confidence from an emphatic opening result as they begin their latest attempt to improve on last season's run to the Champions League semi-finals.

Kane was named the player of the match after another influential performance in front of goal.

The England captain received an average rating of 9.00, ahead of Olise on 8.85 and Musiala on 8.12.
