Will Anderson Jr. signs $150m Texans extension, becomes highest-paid non-QB

The Houston Texans have made a major statement about their future, agreeing to a record-breaking extension with Will Anderson Jr. The star defensive end has landed a three-year, $150 million deal, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in National Football League history.

The extension includes a staggering $134 million in guaranteed money, with Anderson set to earn $50 million per year. That figure surpasses the previous benchmark set by Micah Parsons, who reportedly earned $46.5 million annually following his move to the Green Bay Packers.
The deal underlines Anderson’s value as one of the league’s most dominant defensive forces, and signals Houston’s intent to build around him long-term.
Dominance on the field
Anderson’s rise has been rapid and consistent. During the 2025 season, the 24-year-old posted career highs with 12 sacks and 20 tackles for loss, anchoring one of the league’s most effective defenses. The Texans ranked among the best units, allowing the fewest yards per game and among the lowest points conceded. Across his first three seasons, Anderson has recorded:
- 30 sacks
- 136 total tackles
- 46 tackles for loss
- 64 quarterback hits
- 4 forced fumbles
His performances earned him First-Team All-Pro honors, further cementing his elite status.
From Draft Day to franchise cornerstone
Houston selected Anderson with the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, trading up to secure the former Alabama Crimson Tide standout. That same draft also saw the Texans land franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud, forming the foundation of the team’s rebuild.
Since then, Anderson has lived up to expectations, winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2023 and earning multiple Pro Bowl selections.
Long-Term commitment in Houston
The Texans had already exercised Anderson’s fifth-year option, but this new deal ensures he remains in Houston through the 2030 season. It’s part of a wider strategy, with the franchise actively securing key pieces:
- Danielle Hunter – one-year, $40M deal
- Dalton Schultz – one-year, $12.6M deal
And attention could soon turn to Stroud, who is also eligible for a contract extension.
What it means
This deal doesn’t just reward past performance, it resets the ceiling for defensive players across the league. For Houston, it confirms Anderson as the centerpiece of their defense and a cornerstone of their long-term ambitions. For the NFL, it raises the bar for elite non-quarterbacks and could trigger a wave of high-value extensions across the league.
