Tsitsipas dismantles Ruud to secure third Monte Carlo title

Stefanos Tsitsipas secured his third consecutive Monte Carlo Masters trophy on Sunday by defeating Casper Ruud in a dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory. The Greek player, ranked 12th in the world, had previously won the title in 2021 and 2022.
Tsitsipas took an early lead in the first set by breaking Ruud's serve in the third game. He then saved three break points to maintain a 3-1 advantage before securing a double break for a 4-1 lead. The set was clinched after Ruud double-faulted, ending in just 36 minutes.
In the second set, Tsitsipas faced a tough challenge during a 13-minute game at 3-3, saving three break points after initially leading 40-0. He eventually sealed the victory with a forehand winner down the line on his first match point.
Following the match, Tsitsipas credited a pre-final discussion with his team for motivating him to play fearless tennis against Ruud.
He expressed his determination not to disappoint his team and emphasized the importance of making the most of the opportunity.
Tsitsipas described his victory as more special than his previous title wins, highlighting his focused and determined mindset throughout the match.
He expressed gratitude towards his family, friends, and supporters for their role in his success, emphasizing the significance of completing the hat-trick of Monte Carlo Masters titles.
Ruud, a two-time French Open runner-up, expressed his apologies to the enthusiastic crowd for not being able to consistently challenge his Greek opponent.
"Congratulations to Stefanos for his victory once again, he has been displaying exceptional performance throughout the entire week," stated Ruud, who is currently ranked 10th. "You have rightfully regained your position among the top players."
"I deeply regret not being able to deliver a better performance today. Hopefully, I will return in the future with an improved display."
"Although I fell short this time, I am hopeful that I am inching closer to achieving success in these prestigious tournaments. My aim is to overcome the obstacles and triumph in a major event like this."
Tsitsipas showcased his skills with 30 winners, surpassing Ruud's 20 winners. Ruud had advanced to the final by defeating the world number one, Novak Djokovic, on Saturday.
He now joins the ranks of Rafael Nadal (11), Bjorn Borg, Thomas Muster, and Ilie Nastase as the fifth man to secure three or more Monte Carlo titles.
