Cristiano Ronaldo spent the entire match on the bench as Portugal beat Norway 2-1 in the Nations League, a victory decided by a João Félix opener and a Gonçalo Ramos finish that followed a costly mistake from Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland.

The 41-year-old remains 21 goals short of the 1,000 career goals he is chasing, and was left to watch as his team-mates secured a second straight win in this season's competition. Portugal were also missing captain Bruno Fernandes, who sat out the game through injury.

Félix opens the scoring before Haaland's record reply

As reported by BBC Sport on Sunday, Félix gave Portugal the lead with his second goal in as many games.

Norway responded early in the second half through Erling Haaland, whose equaliser was his 65th goal for his country and his 22nd in the Nations League, stretching his record as the competition's all-time leading scorer.

The advantage did not last long. Nyland played the ball straight to Gonçalo Ramos, and the striker chipped the goalkeeper with composure to restore Portugal's lead at 2-1.

Nyland's errors prove decisive for Norway

Ramos was involved in the key moments throughout. He came close to a second goal before firing wide, and later put the ball in the net again only for VAR to rule the effort out for offside following another error by Nyland.

Portugal's other clear threat came from Rafael Leão, who saw a deflected effort strike the crossbar.

Norway were left to rue their goalkeeper's mistakes as the match slipped away, with Félix's goal and Ramos's two involvements in the goals ultimately separating the sides.
