Nigeria Premier Football League lands $7.5m EUROMATCH sponsorship deal

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has secured a major commercial boost ahead of the 2026/27 season after agreeing to a $7.5 million title sponsorship deal with EUROMATCH.

The three-year partnership, unveiled in Abuja, is worth $2.5 million per season, with NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye confirming that 60 per cent of the sponsorship revenue will be allocated directly to clubs.

The league says the arrangement is intended to translate its growing commercial value into tangible improvements in player salaries, welfare and club finances.

60% of sponsorship revenue earmarked for clubs

Elegbeleye said the agreement was structured to ensure that the players, rather than league administrators, remain at the centre of the NPFL's commercial development.

The 60 per cent allocation means clubs will collectively receive a substantial portion of the sponsorship proceeds, although the NPFL chairman did not disclose how the funds would be distributed between individual clubs.

He stressed that the increased revenue should ultimately be reflected in better conditions for footballers.

"That will help in increasing players' wages."

Elegbeleye also argued that the league's players should be the primary beneficiaries of its growing visibility and commercial appeal. His comments underline a broader shift in the NPFL's strategy, with administrators seeking to build a competition that can attract larger sponsorships while improving the financial sustainability of its clubs.

$7.5m deal comes amid NPFL commercial reforms

The EUROMATCH agreement represents one of the most significant sponsorship commitments to the NPFL in recent years. The league has spent the past several seasons pursuing reforms focused on club ownership, financial structures, broadcasting, branding, player welfare and commercialisation.

The new partnership provides an opportunity to test whether those reforms can produce measurable improvements at club level.

Former Sports Minister and Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication Sunday Dare described the agreement as evidence that the decision to treat sport as a business was beginning to attract investment.

Dare said sustained reforms across the NPFL and its clubs had helped create an environment capable of attracting commercial partners. He also linked the development to Nigeria's broader 10-year football master plan, which seeks to strengthen the domestic game, attract investment and improve the international competitiveness of Nigerian football.

Record NPFL prize money also on the horizon

The sponsorship announcement comes at a potentially significant moment for the NPFL. The 2026/27 champions are expected to receive a record N1 billion prize, according to the National Sports Commission.

Combined with the new EUROMATCH investment, the increased prize money could provide clubs with greater financial incentives while raising the stakes for the upcoming campaign.

However, the long-term impact of the sponsorship will depend on how effectively clubs convert additional revenue into sustainable operations, competitive squads and improved player conditions.

EUROMATCH targets Nigerian football market

EUROMATCH Group chairman Sadi Semih described the three-year agreement as a strategic investment in Nigerian football. The company said it intends to work with the NPFL and other stakeholders to create sustainable value from the partnership and increase the league's international visibility.

For the NPFL, the challenge now will be to turn the commercial agreement into visible improvements that fans and players can experience beyond the headline figure.

With $2.5 million committed every season, the partnership gives the league a significant new commercial platform as the 2026/27 campaign approaches. Former Super Eagles stars Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Austin Eguavoen and Brown Ideye were among the notable figures present at the unveiling in Abuja.
