Mbappé ordered to pay PSG €60,000 by Paris court
Kylian Mbappé has been ordered to pay Paris Saint-Germain €60,000 after the Paris Court of Appeal ruled that the seizure of the club's assets caused financial disruption.
The ruling adds another twist to the long-running legal dispute between Mbappé and his former club, despite the player having previously secured a much larger payment from PSG.
The court ruled that PSG should be compensated for the costs associated with opening an emergency credit line after Mbappé's lawyers froze the club's bank accounts as a precautionary measure.
Why Mbappé must pay PSG
According to the ruling, the €60,000 compensation relates to the financial consequences of a 45-day asset seizure between 10 April and 25 May 2025.
Mbappé's legal team had initiated precautionary seizure proceedings against PSG's accounts while seeking to guarantee payment of disputed bonuses and incentives.
The measure meant funds belonging to the club were frozen pending a court ruling.
PSG argued that the seizure created financial difficulties and forced the club to seek a last-minute credit line to meet its current financing needs.
The Paris Court of Appeal recognised the costs associated with arranging that emergency financing and ordered Mbappé to compensate the club with €60,000.
Court rejects PSG's other claims
While PSG succeeded in securing compensation for the financial disruption, the court rejected the club's other claims.
Judges dismissed requests for compensation relating to alleged damage to PSG's ethics, image and reputation.
The court also rejected arguments concerning potential internal disruption or possible FIFA sanctions, finding that the risks cited by the club's management had no factual basis.
As a result, PSG received only the €60,000 compensation linked specifically to the financial consequences of the asset seizure.
Mbappé and PSG dispute dates back to 2024
The dispute began after Mbappé left PSG to join Real Madrid following lengthy transfer negotiations.
In August 2024, the France international demanded €60 million from PSG in bonuses and incentives that he claimed the club had failed to pay.
The Spanish League's legal committee backed Mbappé, but the matter subsequently stalled.
Mbappé then filed a lawsuit before the labour court in spring 2025 while his lawyers also pursued the precautionary seizure of PSG's accounts.
The club strongly objected to the move and argued that Mbappé's camp had sought the seizures for media purposes.
PSG eventually succeeded in having the seizures lifted in May 2025.
PSG previously ordered to pay Mbappé €61m
The legal battle later swung heavily in Mbappé's favour.
In December 2025, the labour court ordered PSG to pay the former player €61 million.
The French club complied with the ruling, although reluctantly.
Almost a year later, Mbappé has now been ordered to make a significantly smaller payment in the opposite direction.
The Paris Court of Appeal's decision on 3 September 2026 means the Real Madrid striker must pay PSG €60,000 for the liquidity disruption caused during the 45-day asset seizure.
The latest ruling represents another chapter in a dispute that has continued well beyond Mbappé's departure from Paris.
