Marmoush scores twice as Egypt beat South Sudan 5-0

Egypt recorded a comprehensive 5-0 victory over South Sudan in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group B, with Omar Marmoush scoring twice in a contest the visitors controlled from start to finish.

Five different goals settled the tie. Mostafa Zico opened the scoring in the 36th minute, and Marmoush added the second just after the interval before three further goals put the result beyond doubt.

How the goals came

Egypt broke the deadlock through Mostafa Zico in the 36th minute, taking a 1-0 lead into half-time.

Marmoush doubled the advantage in the 49th minute, and Ibrahim Adel made it three in the 75th. Marmoush then claimed his second of the match in the 83rd minute, with Hamza Abdelkarim completing the scoring in the second minute of stoppage time.

Egypt dominate the statistics

The numbers reflected the scoreline. Egypt had 61 per cent possession to South Sudan's 39 and registered 10 shots on goal from 19 attempts, a 53 per cent accuracy rate, against a single effort on target from the hosts.

Egypt completed 410 of 486 passes at 84 per cent accuracy, while South Sudan managed 252 of 306 at 82 per cent. The visitors also won four corners to three and recorded 16 clearances.

South Sudan's goalkeeper was the busier of the two, making five saves, and the hosts blocked four shots to Egypt's two. Egypt committed nine fouls to South Sudan's 12, with two offsides against the visitors and none against the hosts.

What it means in Group B

The result leaves Egypt on four points from two matches in Group B, with one win and one draw so far in the campaign.

South Sudan remain without a point after two games, having lost both of their opening fixtures.
