Atletico Madrid set condition to lower Julian Alvarez release clause

Atletico Madrid have reportedly promised to lower Julian Alvarez’s €500 million release clause, but the Barcelona target must first meet a significant condition.

Alvarez was one of the most discussed players during the summer transfer window after his reported attempt to force a move to Barcelona failed, leaving him at Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine forward has remained with the Spanish club despite the tense situation surrounding his future and has already featured in three matches this season, including the full 90 minutes against Liverpool.

Barcelona’s failure to sign Alvarez during the summer was largely attributed to his enormous €500 million release clause, which the Catalan club would have had to meet.

Atletico reportedly set 20-goal condition

With Alvarez’s future at Atletico Madrid still uncertain, the club are reportedly prepared to reduce the value of his release clause.

According to El Chiringuito, Atletico president Gil Marin has promised Alvarez that his release clause will be lowered, but only if the striker scores at least 20 goals this season.

The target would represent a significant but achievable milestone for Alvarez based on his previous scoring record at Atletico.

The forward scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, while he registered 29 goals during his debut campaign at the club.

However, the reported condition could also provide an indication of when Atletico would be prepared to consider Alvarez’s departure.

If the clause is only reduced after he reaches the 20-goal mark, Atletico appear to be looking towards a potential transfer at the end of the season rather than the January window.

Alvarez’s Barcelona future remains a possibility

Barcelona’s need for another attacking option could depend on how their season develops.

The Catalan club have made an impressive start to the campaign, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal providing a major source of goals for the team.

Their current attacking production means there is less immediate pressure to make another major addition, but Alvarez could still offer Barcelona another option in the forward line.

The Argentine would provide additional attacking quality while potentially reducing the workload on Raphinha and Yamal.

Barcelona could also be concerned about the impact of an injury to either player, given their importance to the team's attacking output.

Barcelona could revisit Alvarez transfer

The reported change to Alvarez’s release clause could make his situation worth monitoring for Barcelona.

Atletico’s alleged 20-goal condition suggests that any potential reduction could be linked to the striker’s performances during the season.

For Barcelona, that could create another opportunity to pursue the Argentina international, either during the January transfer window or next summer.

For now, however, Alvarez remains an Atletico Madrid player, with his future continuing to attract attention after Barcelona’s failed attempt to sign him during the summer.
