Gabriel Jesus joins Barcelona after Arsenal agreement

Gabriel Jesus has completed his move from Arsenal to Barcelona after the two clubs reached an agreement for the Brazilian striker to join the Catalan side.

Barcelona confirmed that Jesus has signed for three seasons, with his agreement running until 30 June 2029.

The transfer takes the 29-year-old to a third major European club after previous spells with Manchester City and Arsenal.

Gabriel Jesus begins new chapter at Barcelona

Jesus was born in São Paulo on 3 April 1997 and began his football career with Anhanguera before joining the youth system at Palmeiras.

He made his Palmeiras first-team debut in March 2015 and quickly established himself in Brazil. During his time at the club, he helped Palmeiras win the Brazilian Cup in 2015 and the league title in 2016, while also being named the best player in the Brazilian league that year.

His performances earned him a move to Europe, with Manchester City securing his services in the summer of 2016.

Jesus enjoyed trophy-laden Manchester City spell

Jesus spent several seasons at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, making 236 appearances for the club.

The Brazilian scored 95 goals and supplied 45 assists during his time with the Premier League side.

He also collected a significant number of major honours in Manchester, including four Premier League titles.

His trophy haul with City included the 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21 and 2021/22 Premier League titles, as well as the 2018/19 FA Cup.

Jesus also won four League Cups and two Community Shields during his spell at the club.

Arsenal spell ended with Barcelona move

Jesus moved to Arsenal in July 2022 and went on to make 123 appearances for the Gunners.

He scored 32 goals and registered 22 assists during his time in north London.

His Arsenal career was interrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in January 2025. The injury kept him out of action until December.

Jesus eventually returned and played a part in Arsenal’s 2025/26 Premier League title success, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.

He now leaves England behind to begin a new chapter with Barcelona.

Jesus also brings international experience

Jesus has represented Brazil from youth level through to the senior national team.

He began his international career with Brazil’s Under-20 side before being selected for the squad that won the men’s football gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The striker scored three goals during that Olympic tournament.

Jesus made his senior Brazil debut in September 2016 and subsequently featured in Brazil’s squads for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.

He was also part of Brazil’s victorious 2019 Copa América squad and was included in the team for the 2021 edition of the competition.

His arrival gives Barcelona a forward with extensive experience in both domestic and international football as he begins his spell at Camp Nou.
