Denny Hamlin wins 2026 NASCAR All-Star Race at Dover, claims $1 million prize

Denny Hamlin added another major chapter to his decorated NASCAR career on Sunday, mastering the demanding concrete surface of Dover Motor Speedway to capture the 2026 NASCAR All-Star Race and walk away with the winner's $1 million check.

Starting from pole position, Hamlin delivered a measured and commanding drive in the final stage of the race, overtaking teammate Chase Briscoe with 29 laps remaining before controlling the closing stages to secure his second career NASCAR All-Star victory.

The triumph marked Hamlin's first All-Star win since 2015 and reinforced the strength of Joe Gibbs Racing, whose cars controlled much of the afternoon in Delaware.

Hamlin crossed the finish line 0.887 seconds ahead of Briscoe after leading the decisive final segment. Speaking after the race, Hamlin praised his team for providing a car capable of handling long runs on Dover's notoriously difficult one-mile track.

The veteran driver also delivered one of the emotional moments of the day when discussing the $1 million prize money, saying he intended to give it to his mother following the recent loss of his father.

Joe Gibbs racing dominates final segment

The final 200-lap stage evolved into an in-house battle among Toyota drivers.

Hamlin and Briscoe combined to lead almost the entire final portion of the race, while drivers from Hamlin's co-owned 23XI Racing operation also played major roles earlier in the event.

Bubba Wallace won the opening segment after surviving heavy early chaos, while Tyler Reddick captured Segment Two with a late overtake.

The race's final top-five finishers were:

  1. Denny Hamlin
  2. Chase Briscoe
  3. Erik Jones
  4. Austin Dillon
  5. Connor Zilisch

Connor Zilisch produces breakthrough performance

One of the strongest stories to emerge from Dover involved rookie Connor Zilisch.

The 19-year-old climbed back from a mid-race pit-road penalty to finish fifth, his best result of the season. After enduring a difficult transition into NASCAR's top series, the result offered a major confidence boost.

Zilisch steadily worked his way back through the field and looked increasingly comfortable battling established veterans in the closing laps.

For Trackhouse Racing, the performance may signal the beginning of a stronger second half of the season.

Crashes create chaos early

While Hamlin eventually controlled the race, the event itself was far from smooth. Two major multi-car crashes defined the opening segment and disrupted the afternoons of several contenders.

Notable names including Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott suffered significant damage during the incidents.

The wreck-filled opening stages transformed what initially looked like a tactical race into a survival contest.

What's next for NASCAR?

The NASCAR Cup Series now shifts attention back to championship competition with the annual Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Defending winner Ross Chastain will look to defend his crown, while Hamlin heads into the event carrying momentum after one of his strongest performances of the season.

With the summer stretch approaching, Dover may prove to be a key turning point.
