Chelsea 5-1 Bournemouth: Henderson shines as Blues return to winning ways

Jordan Henderson delivered a standout performance with two goals and an assist as Chelsea recorded a commanding 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder's contribution helped Chelsea end their winless run in the Premier League, with João Pedro also scoring twice and Morgan Rogers playing a key role in a devastating opening spell.

Chelsea needed little time to establish control. Henderson opened the scoring after just 66 seconds, before Rogers doubled the advantage inside three minutes as Bournemouth defender Antonio Silva turned the attack into his own net. The goal was credited to Rogers.

The hosts' fast start gave them a platform to dominate, although their attacking approach again left room for defensive concerns. Chelsea had struggled to find consistency in the period leading into the international break, and Bournemouth briefly threatened to disrupt their afternoon after the interval.

However, the Blues' attacking quality ultimately proved decisive.

Henderson leads Chelsea's charge

Henderson made an immediate impact, finishing from the edge of the area after Cole Palmer set him up for the opening goal. The former Liverpool captain was influential throughout, helping Chelsea dictate the tempo and linking their midfield with the attack.

His second goal was even more impressive. With Chelsea already in control, Henderson stepped up to take a free-kick from around 25 yards and curled the ball into the top corner to complete his brace.

The 36-year-old also assisted Rogers' goal, capping a performance that made him one of the afternoon's central figures.

João Pedro was equally effective in front of goal. After a relatively quiet first half, the Brazilian struck less than 30 seconds into the second period, firing past Djordje Petrović to put Chelsea 3-0 ahead.

Bournemouth responded when Evanilson scored following a poorly defended corner, exposing the vulnerability that has sometimes accompanied Chelsea's aggressive approach. The goal offered the visitors a brief opening, but Chelsea soon restored their three-goal cushion.

João Pedro completed his brace in the 67th minute, finishing from Pep Chavarría's delivery after good work down the left. Henderson then added his second with the outstanding free-kick to complete the 5-1 scoreline.

Chelsea's attack delivers, but defensive questions remain

The result offered Chelsea a much-needed boost after a difficult run of league fixtures. Their early intensity, movement and finishing overwhelmed Bournemouth, who struggled to recover after conceding twice in the opening minutes.

Rogers continued his productive start to life at Chelsea, while Pedro Neto provided an attacking threat from the right flank and contributed to the move that led to João Pedro's first goal.

Chavarría also impressed, combining his defensive responsibilities with an effective attacking contribution that included the assist for João Pedro's second strike.

There were encouraging signs elsewhere. Moisés Caicedo returned to the starting line-up for his first start of the season, giving Chelsea greater assurance in midfield, while goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez produced an important double save in the first half to deny Rayan and Ryan Christie.

Nevertheless, Evanilson's goal highlighted an area Chelsea will need to address. Their willingness to attack in numbers can make them entertaining to watch, but failing to deal with set pieces and transitions could prove costly against stronger opposition.

For Bournemouth, the defeat extended a difficult start to the campaign. Chelsea, meanwhile, will hope the emphatic result provides the momentum needed to build greater consistency.

Chelsea Player Ratings vs Bournemouth

Emiliano Martínez — 7/10

Martínez was not overly busy but produced a crucial double save around the 35-minute mark, first denying Rayan and then Ryan Christie. His intervention helped Chelsea preserve their advantage during a potentially dangerous spell.

Josh Acheampong — 6/10

Selected ahead of Wesley Fofana, Acheampong looked composed in possession and supported Chelsea's attacks when opportunities arose. A solid outing without dominating proceedings.

Maxence Lacroix — 6/10

Lacroix was proactive in stepping forward to challenge Bournemouth's attackers, particularly Evanilson. He was not entirely convincing positionally, however, and Chelsea were fortunate that Martínez's first-half double save prevented further trouble.

Levi Colwill — 6/10

Colwill showed improvement, winning important aerial duels and looking more assured than in some recent appearances. There is still room for development, but this was a positive step.

Pedro Neto — 7/10

Neto continued his encouraging form from the right flank. His direct running troubled Bournemouth and his work down the right helped create the opportunity for João Pedro's first goal.

Moisés Caicedo — 6/10

Making his first start of the season, Caicedo brought greater stability to Chelsea's midfield. Evanilson's goal followed a clearance involving the Ecuadorian, although responsibility for the concession was not his alone.

Jordan Henderson — 9/10

The standout performer. Henderson opened the scoring with a composed finish, contributed to Rogers' goal and controlled stretches of the game from midfield. His superb free-kick capped a memorable display and earned him Man of the Match honours.

Pep Chavarría — 8/10

Chavarría looked comfortable on the ball and attentive defensively. His excellent delivery for João Pedro's second goal was a highlight of an increasingly confident performance.

Cole Palmer — 6/10

Palmer set up Henderson's opener and played an important role in Chelsea's early momentum. He was quieter than some of his attacking teammates but remained useful, showing unselfishness by allowing Henderson to take the free-kick for his second goal.

Morgan Rogers — 8/10

Rogers made a bright start, with his early effort resulting in the own goal credited to him. He remained lively and dangerous beyond that contribution, continuing to offer Chelsea a threat in the final third.

João Pedro — 9/10

João Pedro rewarded Chelsea's decision to start him following his knee injury. He struck shortly after the restart and added a second from Chavarría's cross, giving the hosts another reliable source of goals. His movement and finishing were decisive.

Chelsea substitutes

Marco Palestra — 6/10

Introduced for João Pedro in the 72nd minute, Palestra brought energy down the right and made his long-awaited debut.

Romeo Lavia — 6/10

Replaced Caicedo in the 72nd minute and helped Chelsea see out the closing stages.

Estêvão Willian — N/A

Came on for Rogers in the 84th minute but had limited time to make a meaningful impact.

Danny Welbeck — N/A

Entered in the 84th minute and had too little time to warrant a rating.

Malo Gusto — N/A

Replaced Palmer in the 88th minute for a brief late appearance.

Chelsea's 5-1 victory was built on an explosive opening, clinical finishing and Henderson's unexpected brilliance. João Pedro's brace and Rogers' contribution reinforced the quality of the attack, while Martínez's first-half intervention proved important in keeping Bournemouth at bay.

The result will lift confidence, but the goal conceded from a corner serves as a reminder that Chelsea's attacking ambition must be matched by greater defensive discipline if they are to sustain their progress.
