Casemiro joins Inter Miami after Manchester United exit on free transfer

Inter Miami have strengthened their midfield by signing Brazilian international Casemiro following the end of his Manchester United career.

The experienced midfielder arrives as a free agent after United opted not to activate the extension clause in his contract, bringing his four-year stay at Old Trafford to an end. Casemiro has agreed a contract that runs through the 2027 Major League Soccer season, with an option that could keep him at the club until 2029.

Casemiro joined Manchester United in August 2022 after an illustrious career with Real Madrid, where he won multiple UEFA Champions League titles and domestic honours.

Although his time in England featured periods of inconsistency and injury setbacks, the Brazilian remained an important figure during several memorable campaigns. His achievements with United included EFL Cup winner (2023), FA Cup winner (2024), and Europa League finalist (2025).

One of his standout moments came in the 2023 League Cup final when he scored in the victory that secured Erik ten Hag's first trophy as United manager.

Strong finish before departure

Casemiro enjoyed a resurgence during the latter stages of his Manchester United career. After initially falling down the pecking order, the midfielder fought his way back into the starting lineup and became increasingly influential.

His final campaign proved to be his most productive in attack, registering nine goals, including five goals in 15 appearances after Michael Carrick assumed managerial responsibilities. Despite the improved performances, Manchester United had already decided not to extend his contract as part of the club's long-term squad rebuild.
