Barcelona Women clinch seventh straight Liga F title with derby win over Espanyol

FC Barcelona Femení have once again underlined their status as the dominant force in Spanish women’s football, clinching a seventh consecutive Liga F title with a commanding 4-1 victory over RCD Espanyol Femenino in the Catalan derby.
The win not only secured the title with four matches still to play, but also capped another near-flawless domestic campaign that has further widened the gap between Barcelona and their closest challengers.
Derby dominance seals the title
Played at Espanyol’s home ground, the decisive clash briefly hinted at tension when the hosts found an equaliser from the penalty spot. But Barcelona’s response was emphatic.
Teenage forward Martine Fenger stole the spotlight with a clinical brace, continuing her rapid rise within the squad. She was joined on the scoresheet by Caroline Graham Hansen and Carla Julià Martínez, as Barcelona’s attacking depth once again proved overwhelming.
Sportsligue reports that the result effectively ended the title race, with Barcelona opening an unassailable gap over Real Madrid Femenino, who can no longer catch the leaders even with a perfect finish to the season.
A season defined by control and consistency
This latest triumph marks Barcelona’s 11th league title overall, but it is the manner of this one that stands out.
They have won 25 of their 26 league matches, dropping points just once in a surprise defeat to Real Sociedad Femenino earlier in the campaign. Beyond results, the numbers tell an even stronger story.
Barcelona has once again surpassed the 100-goal mark, continuing a trend that has become almost routine, while maintaining one of the tightest defensive records in Europe. Conceding fewer than 15 goals across the season, their balance between attack and control remains unmatched domestically.
This is now the sixth time in recent years that Barcelona have combined a league title with a century of goals, reinforcing their identity as both entertainers and relentless winners.
The core behind the dynasty
At the heart of this era-defining run is leadership and continuity.
Alexia Putellas continues to build a legacy as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history, adding yet another league title to her collection. Close behind is Aitana Bonmatí, whose influence in midfield has been central to Barcelona’s control of matches week after week.
Around them, a blend of emerging talents and established stars has created a squad capable of evolving without losing its identity, a key reason behind their sustained dominance.
Chasing another historic quadruple
While the league title is secured, Barcelona’s season is far from over.
They remain on course for a potential quadruple, having already lifted the Spanish Supercopa. Attention now turns to the Copa de la Reina final against Atlético Madrid Femenino and a crucial UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final clash with FC Bayern Munich Frauen.
Should they progress, a final showdown against either Arsenal Women FC or Olympique Lyonnais Féminin awaits — a stage where Barcelona have increasingly made themselves at home.
The bigger picture
Barcelona’s dominance is no longer just about winning titles; it is about redefining standards. From recruitment to player development and tactical identity, they have built a system that consistently produces results while maintaining an attractive brand of football.
As rivals attempt to close the gap, Barcelona continue to move the benchmark forward. Seven titles in a row is not just a record, it is a statement of an era.
