Raphinha Stars as Barcelona Thrash Elche 5-0 in LaLiga Opener

Barcelona made a commanding start to their LaLiga title defence, cruising to a 5-0 victory over Elche at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero on Sunday.

Raphinha was the standout performer for Hansi Flick's side, scoring twice as Barcelona quickly established control of the contest. New signing Anthony Gordon also made an immediate impression, registering two assists on his debut.

New arrival Rodri was not included in Barcelona's matchday squad, but the champions had more than enough attacking quality to overcome Elche.

Raphinha Gives Barcelona Early Lead

Barcelona needed just 14 minutes to break the deadlock after Fermín López produced an excellent first-time pass into Raphinha's path.

The Brazilian winger was brought down inside the area by Víctor Chust, earning Barcelona a penalty. Raphinha stepped up and confidently converted from the spot beyond Elche goalkeeper Matías Dituro.

Barcelona continued to dominate possession and territory as Elche struggled to cope with the visitors' attacking movement.

Adeyemi Scores on Barcelona League Debut

Raphinha then turned provider for Barcelona's second goal, sending a ball into the area that found Karim Adeyemi.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward took a touch before calmly finishing to open his league account for his new club.

The goal gave Barcelona an even stronger grip on the match as Elche struggled to create sustained pressure.

Gordon Makes Immediate Impact

Anthony Gordon's Barcelona debut quickly became one of the major talking points of the match.

The England international came off the bench and almost immediately contributed to the scoreline. Gordon found Raphinha in space with a well-weighted pass, allowing the Brazilian to finish and claim his second goal of the afternoon.

Gordon later added another assist when he chose to square the ball for Fermín López rather than attempt to finish himself.

López converted in the 71st minute to put Barcelona 4-0 ahead.

Fermín López Completes Barcelona Rout

López was not finished, however, as he added a second goal to complete Barcelona's five-goal haul.

The midfielder received the ball with his back to goal before quickly turning away from Federico Redondo and creating enough space to fire a low finish into the bottom corner.

The result completed a comprehensive opening-day victory for Flick's side.

Elche came closest to finding a consolation when Facundo Buonanotte, on loan from Brighton, struck the woodwork. The effort proved to be one of the hosts' few genuine threats as Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia finished with a clean sheet.

Barcelona Begin Title Defence in Style

Barcelona are targeting a third consecutive LaLiga title after finishing ahead of Real Madrid in each of the previous two campaigns.

Their opening performance offered an early indication of their attacking threat, with Raphinha leading the way with two goals and Gordon making an immediate contribution after arriving at the club.

The only concern for Flick was an injury to Gavi, who was replaced by Pedri at half-time. However, Gavi was seen on the pitch after the final whistle, suggesting the issue may not be serious.

Barcelona will now turn their attention to their next LaLiga fixture as they look to build on an emphatic opening-day performance.
