Andreeva rallies past Potapova to win Linz Open title

Mirra Andreeva produced a gritty comeback to defeat Anastasia Potapova 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 and win the Upper Austria Ladies Linz on Sunday. The top seed recovered from a difficult start to claim her second singles title of the 2026 season and the fifth of her career.
Andreeva was on the back foot from the start, dropping the opening set 6-1 and falling behind early in the second. However, the 18-year-old adjusted her approach, finding consistency and composure to shift the momentum and complete the comeback in one hour and 54 minutes.
Among the Season’s Elite
With this victory, Andreeva joins Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula as the only players to win multiple WTA titles in 2026. Her latest triumph adds to her earlier success at the Adelaide International in January.
After the match, Andreeva credited her opponent for pushing her to the limit.
“I was struggling a lot to find a solution,” she said. “You’re an amazing fighter and an even better person.” She also praised her own resilience, adding:
“I want to thank myself for fighting until the end, for never stopping and believing I could turn it around.”
Match Stats Snapshot
Andreeva finished with 32 winners and 35 unforced errors, showing attacking intent despite the tough start. Potapova recorded 30 winners but was hindered by 42 unforced errors, which proved costly in the deciding moments.
The win improves Andreeva’s head-to-head record over Potapova to 3-1.
Milestone Week for Potapova
Despite defeat, Potapova enjoyed a standout tournament. Now representing Austria, she became the first player competing for the country to reach the Linz final since the event began in 1991. A former champion in 2023, she also received strong support from the home crowd throughout the week.
Eyes on Roland Garros
Andreeva heads into the clay season with strong momentum, having ended a title drought stretching back to 2024. With the French Open approaching, she is shaping up as one of the key contenders.
Another comeback, another title—Mirra Andreeva continues to show maturity beyond her years as she cements her place among the WTA Tour’s rising stars.
